Why are you running for office? I am running for this office to be an independent voice for the citizens of the district and County. Year after year, the same old political games and poor decisions have hurt the taxpayers. I believe we I am a strong enough person to stand on my own and truly represent the wishes and thought of my constituents.
What do you you hope to accomplish if elected?
1. Economic Development - The 19th district covers the Towns of Royalton and Hartland. These two communities are basically bedroom communities; we have little area for commercial development. The infrastructure is just not available, without a cost to the local taxpayers, and that is the last thing people need is higher taxes at this point. There are plenty of areas in the county to develop and promote positive growth for all the taxpayers of the county. Keeping jobs in the County is important, while actively pursuing other development of business and jobs. This is being done and has to continue. With the Lawsuit the NTCC has not been able to market Niagara County and follow up on the marketing plan of the previous year. That is sad, because they were able to turn the original 1 Million dollars into approximately 29 Million for the County.
2. Taxes – People are at their breaking point regarding taxes. The burden has become overwhelming to many, especially those on a fixed income. The county needs to do a better job with the budget. For example, last years budget could have had an addition 1.2 million dollar reduction, but the majority felt they needed to pass their budget and not burden the department heads with further cuts. We currently have a department which has paid 19,000 man hours of overtime @ 40/hour. This is jeopardizing other programs and departments within
3. Union negotiations / Health Insurance - It has been 2 years since my last election campaign and the elective cosmetic surgery clause has still not been addressed. The majority spoke about this and campaigned on this issue and has done nothing to address this problem, but it’s an election year and it’s back out in the public. The county needs to sit down and negotiate in good faith and not in the public sector and settle the expired contracts with the unions. While doing so, they need to bring all union identities into one insurance plan and save the taxpayers 100’s of thousands of dollars, if not Millions.
The topic of elected legislators and part time attorney’s receiving health insurance is beyond comprehension and is a slap in the face to taxpayers. A great deal was made of this two years ago and they settled for a 10 % co-pay for the legislators, and not making this available to future elected legislators, somewhere along the line they forgot about the attorneys. Not really - some of the legal minds of our legal team stated they would quit and it would cost us money if the benefits were to be pulled. Guess what there are pages of attorneys in the phone book and I am quite sure many of them would love to make the salary of our part time attorneys. The ball was dropped here and there should be no debate on this one – all benefits need to be removed immediately for all elected legislators and part time attorneys.
