Organizational endorsements: Lockport Fire Department, Niagara County Deputy Sheriff's Association

Why are you running for office? Because we have set Niagara County on a very positive course recently. We recently had an outside audit by our outside auditing firm of Drescher and Milecki and they stated that even though we have had the same challenges that has put Erie County into the serious fiscal crisis that they are in, we have handled our finances in a much more effective and efficient manner. Our fund balance, which just three years ago was running at a $300,000 deficit, has risen to $12.7 million. Over that same three year period, of the 58 counties in New York State, Niagara County has had the third lowest property tax increase. We are managing the county in a efficient, responsible manner. Last year, we ended the practice of "appointing" political cronies to department head positions. Previously, when the majority of the legislature would change, the new majority would appoint new department heads. Last year, we ended that practice by going out and recruiting the best persons for those department head positions and gave them four year contracts. This substantially improves continuity and morale in these departments.

What do you you hope to accomplish if elected? In my first term, I have been one of the hardest working, most dedicated legislators in the county. I have brought a significant amount of legislation to try to turn us in a more positive direction than the past. From getting the Haz-Mat trailer for the Lockport Fire Department, to the resolution ending lifetime health insurance for legislators, as well as many others, I have worked tirelessly to promote a positive atmosphere for Lockport's and Niagara County's residents. If I am re-elected, I will continue to commit myself to working for the betterment of this community.
